Come celebrate Valentine's Day

Celebrate Valentine's Day in one of the most romantic places in Andalusia

Tambor del Llano offers you comfort and a perfect environment to celebrate Valentine's Day. Spend a weekend with your partner in the Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park and you will discover the beauty of these landscapes and the White Villages of Cádiz

Valentine's Day is a party that the Catholic Church instituted to counteract the pagan festivities that took place in the Roman Empire. It is celebrated on February 14 as a commemoration of the good works done by Saint Valentine of Rome that are related to the universal concept of love and affection.

The story goes that Valentine was a brave priest who secretly married hundreds of soldiers with their partners despite the prohibition of Emperor Claudius II. Therefore he was beheaded but during the days he was waiting in prison for his execution he saw that the daughter of the prison judge was blind and worked the miracle so he could see. During his transfer to the public square for his execution, Valentine gave the young woman a piece of paper to read. She opened the paper and for the first time managed to see and the first thing she saw was a phrase that said "Your Valentine" as a way to say goodbye. Some historians say that Valentine fell in love with the girl, so it became the symbol of love.
Archaeologists have found a catacomb located on the Maresciallo Pilsudski street (the Pinciano neighborhood in Rome) dedicated to Valentine's Day.

More than a hundred olive trees to get our olive oil

In Spain, more than 200 olive varieties are grown. Each of them brings unique flavors and aromas. We treasure a rich heritage that offers us immense possibilities in the kitchen: Arbosana, Alfafara, Argudell, Arróniz, Bical, Callosina, Canetera, Carrasqueño de Alcaudete, Carrasqueño de la Sierra, Castellana, Changlot Real, Gordal de Hellín, Limoncillo, Llumeta, Lucio, Chamomile of Hellín, Morrut, Ocal, Birdhouse, Dovecote, Small Houses Ibáñez, Pico Limón, Picual de Almería, Rojal de Tarragona, Royal de Calatayud, Vallesa, Vera, Verdial de Badajoz, Verdial de Cádiz, Verdial de Huévar, Villalonga ... and many more

TAMBOR DEL LLANO is an organic farm where we have proposed to make our own extra virgin olive oil. For this we have planted eighty new olive trees that add to the ones we already had on the farm. More than a hundred olive trees that are distributed by drawing a landscape contrasted with the cork oaks.

Las variedades que ahora tenemos en Tambor del Llano son: Arbequina, Lechín y hojiblanca

It is the characteristic variety of Catalonia (Tarragona and Lleida) and Alto Aragón, although its cultivation has spread to practically the entire country. It takes its name from the Lleida town of Arbeca.

It gives a very fluid oil, sweet and in which almost no bitter or spicy flavors are perceived. Its olive oil has a fruity aroma of olive, apple, banana and almond.

Its cultivation extends mainly through the provinces of Malaga, Cordoba, Granada and Seville. Its name refers to the whitish color of the leaves. This variety has the particularity that it is used both for obtaining oil and for use as a table olive.

It is characterized by its flavor and aroma of freshly cut grass, artichoke and aromatic plants. Its entrance in the mouth is sweet, with a slight bitterness and a final itch very localized in the mouth.

This is one of the most widespread varieties in Andalusia, with a strong presence in the province of Seville, although it is also grown in Córdoba, Cádiz and Málaga. The extra virgin oils of this variety stand out for the balance between green, itchy and bitter tones. They are very fruity oils.

September arrives to announce the bellowing of the deer and mushrooms to the arcornocales forests of the Sierra de Grazalema. These two events are an important attraction to attract the attention of visitors to this area of Andalusia.

The deer bellow

The bellowing, is the period in which the male deer is in heat and emits a series of sounds to which the exciting antler fight to get a female joins, the males are hit with the horns trying to unbalance the opposite. When one of them succeeds, the defeated will withdraw immediately or restart the fight.
At the end of September with the first rains of autumn this fantastic spectacle begins, one of the most shocking that can be seen in the Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park in Cádiz.

The bellowing begins with the bellows and continues for several days with the battle in which their antlers collide until exhausted. The sound envelops the heart of the park and its echoes are heard in an environment of several kilometers, especially at dawn and also when the afternoon falls.

From Tambor del llano we have the privilege of hearing the sounds of the bellow.
This natural phenomenon lasts about a month, usually begins in September - according to the weather and lasts well into the month of October or November.

Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park

The Sierra de Grazalema was the first Biosphere Reserve declared as such in the Spanish territory in January 1977. The Natural Park covers an area of more than fifty-three thousand hectares, divided between the provinces of Cádiz and Málaga.
In the Gaditana province it covers an area of 36,600 hectares belonging to different municipalities that are grouped in the region of the Sierra de Cádiz: Algodonales, Benaocaz, El Bosque, El Gastor, Grazalema, Prado del Rey, Ubrique, Villaluenga del Rosario and Zahara de the saw.
While in the province of Malagueña it occupies the remaining 15,094 hectares of the municipalities that are part of the Serranía deRonda: Benaoján, Cortes de la Frontera, Jimera de Libar, Ronda and Montejaque.

The Sierra de Grazalema is part of the Betic Cordillera that runs throughout the Andalusian territory. The Sierras del Pinar, Zafalgar, Hinojar, Margarita, Labradillo and Albarracín belong to the easternmost part of the Subbética; while the Boyar Depression serves as a limit and constitutes the separation line with the Sierras del Endrinal, Peralto, de las Viñas, Ubrique, Los Pinos, Libar and Mojón Alto, Montalate, Blanquilla, del Palo and Benaoján next to the peaks of the mountains of the southern part of the Park that belong to the part of the Penibético.
The Natural Park of La Sierra de Grazalema has a great plant diversity. The Pinsapo (Abies pinsapo) is the most important species in this environment since it is an endemism, a descendant of the Tertiary firs that survived the climatic changes of the Quaternary and that, in a relictive way, we find in this environment and in the Sierra de las Nieves and in the Sierra Bermeja.
Other similar specimens are found in the mountains that form the Rif Mountain Range, in North Africa, within the Talassemtane National Park.
The best copies of Pinsapos will be found in the Sierra del Pinar and we will take a route to visit them, being in a Reserve Area so we must ask for the corresponding authorization to do it.
 TAMBOR DEL LLANO. Mountain lodge
Tambor del Llano is an ecological farm with accommodation located in the cotazón of the Natural Park of the Sierra de Grazalema, 5 km from the town of Grazalema and 25 from Ronda
