Tambor del Llano is at the center of an area declared special for bird protection by the European Union’s Red Natura. The Cádiz Sierra, with its variety of habitats and at a migratory crossroads offers unique bird-watching experiences.  

Ornithological routes from Tambor del Llano 

More than 200 species of birds live in the Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park. The most representative species in the Park is the Griffon Vulture (Gyps fulvus). Their flights are spectacular, mainly during the mating season.

  • MEDITERRANEAN FOREST. Centuries-old forests inhabited by the royal woodpecker, short-toed eagle or by the always restless Sardinian and Dartford Warblers.
  • HIGH MOUNTAIN. The imposing limestone cliffs are home to griffon vultures, Bonelli's eagles, Egyptian vultures, black wheatears and rock thrush.
  • COUNTRYSIDE. The gray shrike, kite, lesser kestrel and vulture, among others, give life to the extensive cereal meadows, olive groves and pastures of the mountains.
  • WETLANDS. The marsh harriers fly over flocks of flamingos, spoonbills and other waders, while hidden in the tarajal the Berber warbler sings.
